For those of you that don't know, Dave Stratton is working with the owners of Raceway Park to build a LMR track right there on site.
Dave and I paced it off last fall and there is a nice little spot that would work out great in the South West corner of the parking lot.

With the dirt from the monster truck show still there we may just have the makings of a nice little LMR facility without much work.
If all goes well we will need to schedule a work weekend (or 2) to get everything in shape.

I was thinking (yeah hold on) that there is a ton of potential there.

We talked a bit about track sizes last night, typical track is 30ft wide with a 30 ft run off. while we don't have to be exact we should make sure we have a bit of wiggle room to "move" the track if a problem spot develops. Like we do at a fair race, if a hole develops we can move a bail in or out to avoid running in it.

If raceway will let us can we make the track 40 wide with a 30 ft run off? That way we can wiggle around all we need.

Jason made a great point last night regarding our photoshoot track. He mentioned that he never got out of 1st gear.
So how long do we want it to be? Do we want it big enough to host a national event someday? That is a very real possibility.

For starters, if we are allowed to move that mound of dirt over to where we will be racing, we can put down a 4 inch thick rectangle-ish shaped dirt pad that will give us a great base to start with.

I have some snow fence already but we will need to keep our eyes open for more. We will need to make setup and teardown quick and easy. so if they will let us, we can sink some small pipes into the ground, at 10 to 15 ft intervals, that we can drop fence posts into and attach the snowfence to that. At the end of the event we pull up the post with the fence still attached, roll it up and stack it some where until the next race.

Your thoughts Huh?

I think, correct me if I'm wrong but I think Jason made that comment about not getting out of 1st gear because of the bumps last night. I have run some tracks in WI that were that size and smaller last year and was able to use race gear.

Ok, that said I feel if we are able to go through with this "dedicated" track we should make sure that we make it large enough for a national some day. If I may suggest modeling it after Fifield WI as that track is a blast to run with long straights and big sweeping corners. I know we are limited to space and that is why I said model it after Fifield track. I also realize we can not bank the corners as they would need the parking lot to remain usable for their large events.

I think with that type of track Raceway could bring in some flat track qaud events also.

my .02 for now

Gentlemen and Ladies,
My wife and I will take one for the team the weekend of 31st.  Raceway Park is going to have there anual year end banquet at Treasure Island Casino.  I know this will be strickly business and we will not have any fun but we will do what we have to.  This should be a good oportunity for us to get to know the new owner of Raceway Park.  I know he likes Bud Lite.   Brian have you gone to this event in the past?
